Star-P Instructions:
If you have not received your username and initial password for beowulf and starp altix, please email the TA.
1. Reading Star-P documents
Go to Interactive Supercomputing webpage www.interactivesupercomputing.com .
Click on Support, and use the userid and password mentioned in class.
Download and read "Getting started with Matlab".
(Let us know if you'd like to use python)
2. Using Star-P on beowulf
You can log into beowulf and use the client there and use the server on altix or evolution.
- HOW TO LOG INTO BEOWULF AND RUN STAR-P:
- You will need accounts on two machines, beowulf.csail.mit.edu and stap.csail.mit.edu . You will be provided with the same username and same (initial) password to both machines.
First, SSH to beowulf.csail.mit.edu with the username and password you were provided. It is recommended that you change your password the first time you log in. Note that since beowulf and the starp altix are separate machines, you will also need to log in to starp.csail.mit.edu with your temporary initial password and change your password there.
- After you are set with passwords, you can run the starp client on BEOWULF.CSAIL.MIT.EDU (NOT the starp machine), by typing the command "starp".
- More detailed guidelines can be found here .
3. Star-P clients on your laptop
If you like using your laptop or desktop, first make sure you have MATLAB installed and working on you machine.
You can install a star-p client on your windows or linux laptop and then access our altix for testing and development. (A bigger more modern evolution machine for more serious runs will be available later.)
-
HOW TO INSTALL THE CLIENT:---->
- For Windows, follow the instructions here .
- For Linux, copying the entire directory /usr/local/starp/2.6.0/ on beowulf to a 32-bit linux machine
should just work.
